Those of us that live away from the larger cities are often forced to buy gear online which can be frustrating when you can’t see exactly what you’re buying. I know that I rely heavily on reviews posted by others but sometimes there just aren’t enough photos. This is why we post our “Closer Look’ reviews.
Here’s our review of the SOG Responder bag.
This bag is actually going to be a gift for a family member so we took some extra care not to get it dirty while these pictures were taken. Also, please forgive the white specks and lines in the photos below, we were having flurries during the photo session.
A couple quick observations:
All zippers are double-stitched and the stress points for the shoulder strap are bar-tacked. The empty weight is 1lb 7oz.
The three mag pouches are generously sized. They look large enough to accommodate AK mags but I cannot verify that.
The main section is large enough to hold two 9″ x 6.5″ x 2.5″ utility boxes with room to spare. This bag was bought to be a dual-duty fishing tackle bag and range bag.
The only MOLLE attachment points are on the face of one end pouch and the shoulder strap pad.
For whatever reason, SOG elected to attach a patch on the other end pocket.
There is padding and a single velcro belt loop on the back of the bag.
It’s a very nice bag at a great price. The quality is very good to excellent. There is no top carry handle unlike most other bags… I actually like the weight savings achieved by eliminating the top carry handle and unecessary MOLLE webbing. I wouldn’t mind seeing an elastic pocket instead of the patch on the end pocket. This would be a great EDC bag.
